RadiSys Corporation, a leading provider of advanced embedded solutions for the communications networking and commercial systems markets, needed a technology partner to establish a solid governance, risk and compliance (GRC) foundation for the company beginning with a financial controls management solution.  With anticipated growth, multiple international locations and limited training resources it was important that the new technology was user-friendly and easily adopted by the world-wide user community.

Protiviti analyzed the company’s existing GRC framework and configured the Governance Portal for use by over 100 control owners across Ireland, China, Malaysia, Canada and the United States. The Protiviti engagement team worked first with members of the RadiSys SOX compliance team to collect the process and test documentation for incorporation into the Governance Portal and then with the RadiSys IT compliance team to extend the use of the Governance Portal for IT Governance initiatives.

Recognizing the value of the Governance Portal platform, RadiSys further expanded their usage of the Governance Portal to deploy a company-wide survey to manage their SOX 302 compliance subcertification and control self assessment processes. The Protiviti team deployed a framework to aggregate testing results and risk and control self assessment (RCSA) data for executive reporting.

The configuration is designed to accommodate future compliance, security and risk-assessment initiatives such as enterprise risk management, internal audit and information security. With a comprehensive platform in place, RadiSys is now positioned to tap the continuously growing Protiviti solutions library with ready-to-upload content that can be used for various security risk-assessment measures such as ISO 27001, PCI and PIPEDA.

Implementation of the Governance Portal has allowed RadiSys to improve in the following ways:

Management reports improved visibility for GRC.

1. A control rationalization initiative has reduced the number of company-wide key controls by more than 30 percent since year one of SOX compliance certification. 
2. Compliance management is now streamlined with an automated mechanism to collect control owner self assessments, SOX 302 certifications and to archive and reset responses for a continuous and sustainable program. 
3. In addition, Protiviti’s help desk and implementation teams have worked closely with RadiSys to support the system upgrades and project ownership changes at the company.
